A Hands-On and Practical Approach to Training with Kerakoll

As discussed in an earlier blog, JMV’s commitment towards education and training is further instilled through collaborations with a variety of brands. Kerakoll is a typical example of this, as it represents a name that specializes in developing pioneering solutions that focus on the environment and improving health and quality of life. By using eco-friendly and naturally breathable building materials, Kerakoll aims to avoid the most common ailments caused by indoor pollution.

Earlier last year, the Executive Architect and Civil Engineer within JMV’s Technical team attended a 2-day Master Regional programme on advanced structural analysis and calculations using GeoForce One, in Ragusa, Sicily. He also led a delegation of four other local Architects and Structural Engineers, all of whom are prominent players within the industry, who expressed interest in learning more about the brand and all that it has to offer.

The programme gave an overview of the introduction, evolution and analysis of composite materials’ legislations. Moreover, it also summarised the acceptance and testing of reinforcement systems, classification and characterization of different Kerakoll reinforcement systems for masonry and reinforced concrete structures.

Participants were also able to experience installation procedures and mechanical characterization tests, together with application examples of such products. Furthermore, there was also focus on the intervention philosophy on masonry structures, together with repair applications, local strengthening, improvements and seismic enhancement of existing buildings.

All this was supported by a presentation on the GeoForce One software, which was developed by Kerakoll Group. This software allows users to carry out calculation examples, structural analysis and verifications, global structural analysis before and after the intervention and other checks for different limit states. The tools available to operators using this software were demonstrated during this session. Other applications of supplementary Kerakoll products, were demonstrated by case studies, which also explained and analysed the approach used to intervene on existing masonry structures and respective elements such as walls, arches and plane diaphragm elements, in order to achieve the best results using products developed by Kerakoll Group.

The purpose of this collaboration was to help fill a knowledge gap in the market and introduce innovative products which were not previously available in a country which is rich in heritage and requires a more specialised approach during restoration interventions. Great interest was shown from the industry in these products, which while suitable for restoration works, are also available to provide solutions for a wide range of structural issues.
