Discover New ISOMAT Products at JMV

ISOMAT’s R&D Department continuously strive to develop innovative products for the market, whilst persistently seeking to improve its existing ones in line with technological advancements and modern requirements of the construction industry.

In addition to the R&D teams’ involvement in acknowledged scientific programs ISOMAT can share views and exchange technological know-how with distinguished universities and all major suppliers of the chemical industry in Europe.

ISOMAT has recently launched a number of new products specialising in waterproofing membranes, concrete repair products and a variety of high-quality products. To ensure the construction of a building has a solid foundation, it’s not only important to invest in professional products mentioned, it’s equally important to know the function each component offers and how it can benefit a building’s structure. Below is a breakdown of said products.

Waterproofing membranes

Undoubtedly, this is one of the most successful product categories of ISOMAT. Over the years, ISOMAT has developed a large understanding of the various application fields, recognising the fact that waterproofing products may be subjected to during application, and during their lifetime.

ISOFLEX-560 BT is an innovative hybrid polyurethane-bituminous waterproofing liquid membrane, developed to meet very high specifications. With the introduction of green roof technology, whereby a building is both waterproofed and thermally insulated with a layer of soil (growing medium) and suitable vegetation, specialist waterproofing products are required to ensure that the benefits of this system can be exploited to their maximum. Apart from being particularly suited for green roof applications, it has high elasticity and crack bridging abilities meaning that the system can perform even in the most demanding applications.

In 2017, ISOMAT also launched two new resin waterproofing membranes for roof terraces:

  • ISOFLEX-HYBRID – which is a hybrid product of acrylic and polyurethane resins, and gives the product the ability to resist standing water.

  • ISOFLEX-AEGEAN is a product with acrylic resins that has a UV cross linking effect, making the product extremely durable under UV exposure. This means that the product will not lose its colour over time.

Concrete Repair

It’s good to know that reinforced concrete undergoes an ageing process. In the Maltese islands, this process is accelerated due to the hostile marine environment affecting the concrete structure.  Given the construction industry’s current trend, where restoration and extensions to existing dwellings have become the order of the day, concrete repair and strengthening products are required to restore the weakened concrete or strengthen structural elements.

The most common application requires a thixotropic (trowel applied) repair mortar to “patch” damaged and/or deteriorated areas. Although this product has already been available in the form of MEGACRET-40, ISOMAT has further improved the product and introduced MEGACRET-40 GEO and MEGACRET-50 THIXO.

Standard repair mortars, are generally coarse-grained. Therefore, following the application of the repair, a secondary finer mortar will be required as a finishing layer. As a result of its innovative formula and geo-binder, MEGACRET-40 GEO provides the applicator with a solution for both patching up and finishing. This therefore eliminates the need for using two separate products.

Furthermore, the high-cement content of repair mortars will cause shrinkage cracking if applied in a high thickness and is not cured adequately. MEGACRET-50 THIXO on the other hand allows the realisation of thicker-than-usual mortar applications during repairs.

Specialist Products

Construction sites always pose new problems and challenges to the developer and the contractor alike. Flexibility and innovation are key to solving these issues rapidly, to be able to meet higher specifications and more demanding application requirements.

ISOMAT provides the industry with products which permit this type of flexibility, whilst ensuring peace of mind.

When it comes to tile-laying over existing floorings, many a time we are faced with old layers of tiles, marble, old stone, concrete, or even PVC and linoleum floorings. The new tiles must adhere well to the substrate, however at times, the tile adhesive alone cannot achieve this and a primer is needed to promote better adhesion.

ISOMAT SUPERGRUND – is an adhesion primer which can be applied over smooth and non-absorbent substrates. Composed of synthetic resins and quartz sand, it roughens the surface in order to create a mechanical key which enhances the adhesive properties of the underlying product.

Traditionally, a large proportion of floorings was directly laid over soil and made-up ground. The absence of a damp-proofing or waterproofing barrier meant that the final finish wasn’t protected against the effects of rising damp – subjecting itself to staining and discolouration of the surface.

DUROPRIMER-SG, is a pioneering epoxy-based primer, engineered to double as a primer and also as a damp-proofing layer to applications which are particularly susceptible to being affected by rising damp. It’s also useful to know that this product can also be applied on substrates that are still damp or even oil contaminated (for instance, in industrial plants).
