Fiberglass Reinforced Rebar

GFRP Bar

Fiberglass reinforced rebars are made out of strands of glass fiber (the roving), which are kept under tension and are impregnated in a thermosetting resin, which assures that the fibers are held together and function together as one bar. The finished product is totally inert, non-corrosive and alkali-resistant. In order to improve adhesion, the outside of the bar is deformed and coated with coarse sand. Fiberglass reinforced rebars are technically referred to as Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymer (GFRP) rebars.  GFRP rebars are made in a factory by the pultrusion process and are available  in sizes 6 mm to 32 mm. They can be used as an alternative to stainless steel, epoxy coated or galvanised rebar.

Transparent to magnetic fields and radio frequencies.

  • Non-conductive: neither electrically or thermally conductive.
  • Good impact resistance: resists sudden and severe point loading.
  • Excellent fatigue resistance: performs very well in cyclic loading situations.
  • Dimensionally stable under thermal loading: reduced expansion/shrinkage in concrete subjected to temperature variation.
