As manufacturers of electro-welded reinforcing mesh and processors of reinforcing steel bars to the local construction industry, we would like to bring to the attention of all those involved in the construction industry, that since November 2005, MSA EN 10080:2005 was approved and endorsed as our National Standard. However it does not incorporate any technical values, grades or classes.
In the absence of a declared National Standard with grades and technical values J.M Vassallo Vibro Blocks Ltd. and J.M.Vassallo Vibro Steel Ltd., will be adopting the following BS grades as the benchmarks to follow, in the production of reinforcing steel mesh and the processing of reinforcing steel bars which came into force 1st January 2006 and hence these supersede the previous well known BS 4449 Grade 460 and BS 4483.
1. Steel for the reinforcement of concrete - Weldable reinforcing steel - Bar, coil and decoiled product - Specification is now BS EN 10080:2005 BS 4449:2005. This new standard incorporates three Grades of Steel which are B500A, B500B and B500C.
2. Steel fabric for the reinforcement of concrete - Specification is now BS EN 1008:2005 BS 4483:2005. This new standard incorporates also the three Grades B500A, B500B and B500C.
Therefore the grade designations ‘T’ & ‘R’ are no longer valid and schedules produced to the new standard are designated ‘A’ , ‘B’ or ‘C’. We are aligning our products to comply with these new stringent standards to enable us supply our clients reinforcing material which benefit from higher mechanical properties. For your convenience we will continue to accept schedules with designation ‘T’ for a period but we reserve the right to supply Grade A, B, or C to meet this requirement.
